Don’t Cover Up Your Drug Headaches – A Better Solution
If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Most Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing and some cause debilitating pain and nausea. What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? There is a better alternative.
First, you should know, that headaches are not normal. While “most” people have them, many, many people don’t ever have them. If you get headaches, it means the primary part of your body – your head – has a problem that requires looking into. Just gutting it out or covering up the symptoms still leaves you with a real problem on your hands – or better put, in your head.
Research shows that spinal adjustments – the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches
A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.
Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches and that those who ceased chiropractic treatment after four weeks experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in contrast with those patients who received a commonly prescribed medication.
Chiropractic care not only helps relieve your headaches, but it also restores the nervous system allowing the body to function and heal itself at 100%. This was shown in another study at yet another prestigious school, the University of Chicago. The study revealed that a chiropractic adjustment to the upper cervical region can significantly lower high blood pressure, a placebo-controlled study performed at the University of Chicago. “This procedure has the effect of not one, but two blood-pressure medications given in combination,” study leader George Bakris, MD, tells WebMD. “And it seems to be adverse-event free. We saw no side effects and no problems,” adds Bakris, director of the University of Chicago hypertension center.
While not nearly enough effort or money is put into Chiropractic studies by U.S. healthcare officials, the studies you do see consistently reveal startling results like these – Chiropractic works, does not have dangerous side-effects, and not only relieves pain, but helps to create health.
