Feeling Fatigued?

Do you find yourself reaching for a cup of coffee at 2PM every day? Is it hard to concentrate on even simple tasks? Do you wake up in the morning feeling more fatigued than when you went to bed? Do you find yourself wishing you could get your work done faster? These are just a few problems that you and many others experience on a daily basis that may be linked to a deficient amount of exercise.

Many studies have shown that sedentary people who start a regular exercise program experience an increase in energy levels. In one study, published in Psychological Bulletin, researchers analyzed more than 6,800 people complaining of fatigue and discovered that in 90% of the cases, sedentary people who completed a regular exercise program reported a decrease in their fatigue and an increase in their energy compared to groups that did not exercise. The average effect was greater than the improvement from using stimulant medications, including ones used for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Researchers say nearly every group studied — from healthy adults, to cancer patients, and those with chronic conditions including diabetes and heart disease — benefited from exercise.

The most effective way to exercise and increase your energy is through the high intensity exercise. It’s likely that if you believe exercise causes more fatigue it is because you do low intensity, long duration exercise. Short, intense “bursts” are the key when it comes to working out and getting the mental and physical results that studies correlate with fitness.
